The European Union has underscored its evolving partnership with the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing the breadth of collaboration spanning trade, investment, climate, artificial intelligence, technology, and security. This announcement comes as both entities strengthen their ties, moving from traditional diplomatic engagements to a robust economic, political, and security alliance.
Geographical proximity and increasing trade and investment links have played significant roles in deepening this relationship. The UAE is recognized as the EU’s second-largest trade partner, while the EU stands as the primary investment partner for the UAE. These economic interactions have paved the way for cooperation in emerging sectors like artificial intelligence and clean energy, as well as enhancing regional connectivity.
Following cooperation at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), the EU and UAE are intensifying their efforts to explore opportunities within the green economy and AI sectors. This initiative aims to bolster links between Europe and the Middle East and North Africa, fostering the exchange of technology and expertise.
In addition to economic and technological advancements, the EU remains committed to working with the UAE on addressing regional security and resilience issues. This collaboration is crucial amid escalating security challenges in the region, highlighting the strategic importance of their partnership.
