The Zayed Sustainability Prize, an esteemed accolade from the United Arab Emirates, has witnessed an unprecedented surge in submissions for its 2027 awards cycle. This year, the competition drew 10,233 entries from 177 nations, reflecting a 32% uptick from the previous year. The prize is dedicated to honoring pioneering initiatives that tackle pressing global issues related to climate action, health, food, energy, water, and the empowerment of global high schools.
In the upcoming awards ceremony, each victor in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will be rewarded with $1 million. Additionally, finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Furthermore, six high schools that triumph in the competition will be granted $150,000 each, while their respective finalists will obtain $25,000. This financial incentive underscores the prize’s commitment to supporting impactful solutions and fostering sustainable development.
Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General of the prize, emphasized that the remarkable level of participation underscores a growing global appetite for actionable and innovative strategies that enhance living conditions. Notably, more than two-thirds of the applications were submitted by developing and emerging economies, indicating a significant interest from these regions. Among the various categories, climate action attracted the highest number of entries, highlighting its critical importance in the current global discourse.
The selection process will advance with the announcement of finalists in September. Following this, a prestigious awards ceremony is slated to take place on January 12, 2027, where the winners will be celebrated for their contributions to sustainability and innovation. As the anticipation builds, the Zayed Sustainability Prize continues to serve as a catalyst for change, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide to pursue groundbreaking projects that address key challenges facing our planet.
