The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has expressed support for the United States’ call for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce in Sudan. This stance comes amid ongoing efforts to establish a political resolution to the conflict that has plagued the country. UAE Minister of State Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan emphasized the importance of ending hostilities and engaging in a comprehensive political dialogue to pave the way for a civilian government in Sudan.
Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation, the UAE underscored the necessity of protecting civilians and addressing the challenges they face. Sheikh Shakhboot reiterated the UAE’s commitment to international efforts aimed at ceasing the fighting and fostering a political process that could lead to stability and governance by civilian authorities in Sudan.
The UAE also called for the expansion of the existing United Nations arms embargo to cover the entirety of Sudan’s territory. This measure, according to the UAE, could significantly reduce the inflow of weapons, thereby enhancing civilian safety and contributing to peace efforts.
In line with these efforts, the UAE affirmed its ongoing collaboration with international partners to support a political solution in Sudan. The country remains dedicated to alleviating the suffering caused by the conflict and advancing towards a sustainable resolution.
